Select  Insert more content from the editor toolbar, and then select Other macros to view, search, and select a macro to insert.

Two extremely useful macros are the Expand macro and the Panel macro.

Expand Macro

The Expand macro is one of Confluence's most popular macros, and for good reason. It allows you to provide content in an expandable/collapsible section. This macro visually reduces information on a page (while still keeping all of the necessary content there for those who may need to view it. This is a great option for processes and instructions that can be broken down into clickable steps. Note: The macro is collapsed by default, and you will need to click each one to expand it.

Add the Expand Macro to Your Page:

  1. Select Image Removed Insert more content from the editor toolbar and select Other macros.
  2. Search for and select Expand.
  3. Enter a Title. (This is the text that users will click on to expand the content.) Preview the macro and select Insert.
  4. Type or insert the content that you want to be expandable/collapsible into the body of the macro.
  5. Publish or Update your page. You can select the macro and select Edit at anytime to update it.

The Title that you enter for the Expand Macro will appear as the text that users will click on to expand/collapse the additional content.

Two of the macros are expanded here and three are collapsed.

Pro Tip

You can even nest Expand macros (place one inside another) and they will show and expand/collapse as set up.

View the Expand Macro page for more information on this macro.

Panel Macro

The Panel macro allows you to add content in a customizable panel, making your page more visually interesting and drawing attention to, or separating, certain content. You are able to customize the border, background, title, and text colors.

Add the Panel Macro to Your Page:

  1. Select Image Removed Insert more content from the editor toolbar and select Other macros.
  2. Search for and select Panel.
  3. Enter your desired parameters. (You can leave parameters blank if you want the default.) Note: Colors must be entered as either HTML color names or hexadecimal codes. Preview the macro and select Insert.
  4. Publish or Update your page. You can select the macro and select Edit at anytime to update it.
