In order for teams to work together, and team members to work together, social contracts must be created and agreed upon. These contracts help focus the conversations and establish expectations. We recommend at least having the following three Social Contracts on every team. There can be more contracts, but these three should always exist. Social Contracts should be reviewed and updated on a regular basis. Team member changes (new people join, existing members leave) are great opportunities to review the existing contracts, or create them, if they don't exist. The Iteration Retrospective is also an appropriate time to review and update the team Social Contracts. Agile Release Trains can also create Social Contracts, as needed. Working Agreements, in general, are powerful tools to help eliminate waste in collaboration and driving to high value outcomes.
