Purpose: The CCSQ Data Camps are multi-session, multi-day events focused on educating the CCSQ Data & Analytics user community featuring technical experts and special guests from various LOBs and ADOs. SAS Viya/CDR users are welcome to attend and automatically receive the invitation to these calls.

This year’s theme was “Growing CCSQ Enterprise Analytics - Learning to Walk Before We Run”, as our session speakers provided guidance and perspective on how data analysts, scientists, and support staff can learn to excel in the foundations of data management and analytics before we move to more advanced capabilities in the future.

Welcome from CCSQ Leadership: CCSQ’s Vision and the Role of Data

Data is foundational to CCSQ’s programs and policies, operational performance, and our approach for improving beneficiary outcomes. We will discuss CCSQ’s vision, how data is central to achieving that vision, and the role of data warehouse models, data governance, and accessible analytics—all topics that will be highlighted in greater detail during this year's Data Camp. As one of the largest components of CMS, CCSQ plays an important role in advancing the agency's data modernization efforts. This session will include time for Q&A with Data Camp participants.
During this session, we will provide a high-level overview of the technical details of SAS Viya, Hive, and AWS and how they work together. We’ll also cover some of the commonly used system macros which are available and designed to improve the SAS Viya user experience. The presentation will wrap up by covering some SAS Viya best practices as well as a demo so you can see these practices put into action.
An Overview of CMS Master Data Management (MDM) & MDM Provider Data Product Offerings

This training covers an overview of the CMS Master Data Management (MDM) Program and CMS MDM Provider data product offerings. An in-depth deep dive into the MDM Comprehensive PMI/SPP and MDM PMI/SPP NPI Profile data products will be given. The presenter will walk through how to query the MDM PMI/SPP and MDM NPI Profile tables for several use cases.
During this session, we will provide a high-level overview of Zeppelin, an open-source notebook used for data analytics. After going through the basics, we will go more in depth about the languages and interpreters users can make use of while in the platform. Following a discussion about best practices within the Zeppelin platform, the presentation will also include a walkthrough of sample notebooks that make use of interpreters (JDBC, Python) currently available to users.
QuickSight Overview: QuickSight BI Tool to Help the CCSQ Enterprise

Presentation: SAS Visual Analytics provides a complete platform for analytics visualization. Interactive, self-service BI and reporting capabilities are combined with out-of-the-box advanced analytics so everyone can discover insights from any size and type of data, including text.
Presentation: Take a deeper dive into execution plans, how Hive works behind the scenes with partitions, and why explicit SQL is recommended over implicit SQL.
1:00 - 1:55pm EST | SAS Troubleshooting Tips & Tricks
Presenter: Mr. Brendon Salatino
Presentation: Learn how to troubleshoot common issues in SAS Viya. SAS logging options and importing data will be covered as well as how to break your code into manageable components for testing.
Presentation: During this presentation, we’ll cover user-submitted code before and after optimization, and the approach we took to improving its performance; all with the goal of sharing how other users of CDR can do the same.
Presentation: CAS provides an in-memory solution to running SAS Programs while Hive provides a distributed approach to accessing large quantities of data. This session will cover the best way to integrate Hive and CAS, using each in a way that plays to their respective strengths.
Presentation: The CAP architecture is designed to abstract compute services from data. This extensible architecture allows multiple tools to access the data and allows end users to leverage the tools they are most comfortable with to perform their analyses. We will cover the future of CAP with a focus on future data science tools.
