The LACE Business Agility Transition Workshop


Business agility helps policy, governance and business teams align with product and service delivery teams to help communication, information, and deliverables flow through the organization in a manner that accelerates the delivery of the end product.  


The Business Agility workshop support's a business team's transition to using practices that have evolved over 22 years of Agile in software product and service delivery.


Starting with a business process mapping exercise and ending with the planning of work for the teams first iterative planning period, this workshop is designed to both impart an understanding of the tools, processes and behaviors that have made agile product delivery successful, and kickstart your team's journey into new ways of working.

  1. Identify Business Process 
    • Start with an exercise to your team will identify their business process in completing deliverables
    • Collaborate with the LACE and Atlassian to create or modify your Jira Project to match your business process
    • Create a standard that defines what completed work is

       2. Develop a Backlog

    • Break work down into small and clearly defined Jira Issues
    • Estimate the effort of each issue in preparation for your first planning meeting


       3. Conduct a planning session 

    • Conduct a LACE-facilitated planning for your team's first planning period


       4. Review the and capture the workshop takeaways for your team using an agile retrospective

    • Capture the difficulties and successes of your team throughout the workshop
    • Identify and create improvement items for subsequent planning periods 
    • Learn to facilitate future retrospectives

In this workshop the CCSQ LACE will assist business teams through their transition to agile. The Business Agility workshop consists of several separate sessions that will end with a business team's first iteration planning. Some of the distinct session your team will benefit from are:

  • Identify your team's business process
  • Setup Jira to support this business process
  • Conduct a planning session
  • Conduct a retrospective session

LACE Workshop: Business Agility

Purpose: To assist business teams through their transition to agile

Notes: can we leverage SIR to create better conceptual understanding and increase efficacy of workshop

Pre-Workshop Engagement

Intake questionnaire 

  • Identify work product(s)
    • What is the expected outcome?
    • What is the vision for this product?

    • How does the product vision relate to the project goals
  • Identify consumer
  • Identify external dependencies
  • Identify internal dependencies/handoffs

Notes:

  • The questionnaire should introduce concepts, subtly, through guidance on answering the questions
  • Who should fill out the questionnaire

  • It could be an online survey or distributed via email

    • Model the workflow established with toast (10 min)
    • Define operational model (Scrum and planning cadence or Kanban) (10 min)
