The LACE Business Agility Transition Workshop


Business agility helps policy, governance and business teams align with product and service delivery teams to help communication, information, and deliverables flow through the organization in a manner that accelerates the delivery of the end product.  


The Business Agility workshop support's a business team's teams transition to using practices that have evolved over 22 years of Agile in software product and service delivery.


Starting with a business process mapping exercise and ending with the planning of work for the teams first iterative planning period, this workshop is designed to both impart an understanding of the tools, processes and behaviors that have made agile product delivery successful, and kickstart your team's journey into new ways of working.

The goal of the Business Agility workshop is for a business team to start it's first iteration planning. It is an 8 hours workshop with multiple sessions and each session can be scheduled separately based on your team's availability. Some of the distinct sessions your team will benefit from are:

  1. Identify Business Process (90 minutes)
    An exercise called "Make your toast", where your
    • team will identify their business process
  • with their actual product
  • Give each team member a chance to describe a business process they think will bring value to the team
  • A discussion on all business processes shared by your team and define a unified process model
    • in completing deliverables
    • Collaborate with the LACE and Atlassian to create or modify your Jira Project to match your business process
    • Create a standard that defines what completed work is

       2. Develop a Backlog

    • Break work down into small and clearly defined Jira Issues
    • Estimate the effort of each issue in preparation for your first planning meeting


       33. Conduct a planning session (50 minutes)session

  • Facilitate a planning session to plan
    • your team's first

       4. Conduct a Retro (30 minutes) Review the and capture the workshop takeaways for your team using an agile retrospective

    • Capture the difficulties and successes of your team throughout the workshop
    • Identify and create improvement items for subsequent planning periods 
    • Learn to facilitate future retrospectives
  
  • Facilitate a retrospective session to reflect on the workshop 

This workshop will close out with a shared overview of the support curriculum and ways your team can get continuous support from the LACE.

2. Set Jira up to support process (90 minutes)

  • Set up Jira to model your defined unified business process
  • Define an operational model that works with your defined business process
  • Define and create enough work items for 1-2 weeks
  • Review and agree on work placement
