QuickSight: How To Create a Drill-Down/Up

Users can give dashboard viewers the ability to drill-down or drill-up on specific data elements, giving the viewers the ability to explore the data in an interactive way. This guide will detail how to create this within a dashboard.

Step-by-step guide

  1. To create drill-down/up functionality into a dashboard, start in an Analyses, and then drag and drop a new field from the Fields list to the Field wells (making sure Add drill-down layer option is showing before it is dropped in the Field wells).

  2. To drill-down there are two options:
Option1: Drilling down to a specific selected value.
To enable this option, click a specific <field 1> value to drill into then pick drill down to <field 2>. In the example below, drilling down from Region: US to Salesperson.

Option 2: Use the down arrow located on the right side of the visualization.
Using the down arrow will drill-down to all available <field 2> values. In the example below this would be Salesperson.

  3. To drill-up, similar options like drill-down are available:
    Drill Up to Region

    Drill Up to Salesperson
